There are many ways you can use frames to add interest to any space at your wedding venue. Decorating a frame with flowers is one of them! If you wish to decorate your frame, you can use artificial or fresh blooms. You can either use frames as a backdrop and hang them on a wall behind the bridal table, dessert table, bar, photo booth area, or over a table by hanging them from a tree or from the ceiling. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to decorate a frame with flowers for your special day.
Step 1: Organise your materials
- For this DIY-project, you’ll need:
- Frame(s)
- Dry floral foam(s)
- Artificial flowers
- Hot glue
- Glue gun
- Scissors
- Diagonal cutting pliers
- Cutter
- Ribbons or jute string
Tip: With artificial flowers it’s best to use a dry (grey) floral foam, it holds artificial flowers better than a wet (green) floral foam does.

Step 2: Prepare flowers
Cut all the flowers to the desired length, in advance, this will make arranging them a lot easier.
Step 3: Prepare frame
Remove the fibreboard, Perspex glazing/glass and paper. You will also need to remove the points using a diagonal cutting plier.

Step 4: Glue foam to frame
- Decide how you’re going to decorate your frame. Do you want to decorate it on both sides, or do you prefer an asymmetrical design?
- Cut the dry foam to the desired size. If you’re on a tight budget and don’t have a huge selection of flowers to decorate with, keep in mind that the bigger the foam or the more foam you use for each frame, the more flowers you’ll need!
- Using a hot glue gun, glue the foam onto the frame.

Tip: If the flowers you’re using have thick stems, you’ll need to increase the size of the foam when cutting it to prevent the flowers from falling off. With artificial flowers, you can always add a bit of glue to secure the flowers on the foam.
Step 5: Arrange flowers
Now that your frame and flowers are ready, you can arrange them in whichever way you like! I started by adding the artificial foliage around the edge of the frame first, then added orchids and hydrangeas.

Tip: If you have three flowers of the same type, add one to each side of the arrangement and one in the middle to create balance.
Step 6: Hang the frame
After you’ve completed arranging the flowers, you will need to hang your frame(s). If you’re hanging them over a table or off a tree, use ribbons or a jute string. I used a white jute string to match the white frame. Cut any extra string or ribbon, if there is any.

How long will it take to decorate a frame with flowers?
This DIY project took me about an hour but I already had the materials organised in advance, which made life a little bit easier. The If you’re intending on decorating the whole frame with flowers it will take about 1.5 – 2 hours per frame. Make sure you have an idea in mind about how you want to decorate your frame before you begin, this will save you time and spare you the hassle of having to rearranging the flowers.
